When Monique arrived in the United States, the movie "Grease"
had just been released. Everyone was fascinated with John Travolta. His pictures
were everywhere. His friend commissioned Monique to weave a large likeness
of him. It took Monique only two months to complete the 5 by 7 foot portrait,
because she chose to use a wide warp (7 ends per inch). Since even the smallest
details could be so enlarged, the portrait looks very realistic. This tapestry
was woven on a frame loom, sideways to avoid slits and to blend the colors
better.
